Buxton Community School Art Visit ✍️🎨

Image
This afternoon, three students from Buxton Community School took time out of their afternoon to come and hold an art workshop with the Leopards.  They introduced the children to LS Lowry and developed their human figure drawing skills. They started off with the basic shape of matchstick men and later developed this by adding detail.

Comparing magnetic materials 🧲

This afternoon in Leopards, we explored a range of objects and tested them for their magnetic properties. We looked at which metals were magnetic and items that were not. We collected our data and sorted it into a table recording our results.

Moment of Appreciation ☺️

This morning the Leopards were working super hard on their writing assessment. They have been writing and publishing a report all about tea following our recent book ‘Cloud Tea Monkeys’.  The classroom environment was calm and focussed. It was clear the children were working hard and I look forward to reading their work.  Well done Leopards 🀩

Figure Drawing ✍️

This afternoon, the Leopards watched a video all about Human form. We looked at some different artists and styles.  They then took part in a guided draw, exploring the techniques of figure drawing. We chose two volunteers, Hatty and Archie, who were our models. The rest of the class had to focus on the figures simple shapes, trying to ignore finer detail.  Safe to say, we certainly have some talented artists πŸ§‘‍🎨

Ammonites - sculptures 🐚

Image
On Monday afternoon, the Leopards looked at Natural form sculptures and discussed the use of scale and materials. Using what we have learn about ammonites, we designed and created our own 3D sculptures using clay.  The children recalled previously taught techniques such as rolling and cooking before joining their clay using the hatch and slip method.
