Investigating melting points
Leopards continued their work on states of matter. We wanted to find out if solids melt at the same temperature. To do this, we set up a fair test with 4 different solids; chocolate, margarine, lard and wax. We had to measure the temperature really carefully, reading the scale accurately. We increased the temperature by 5 degrees each time, from 20 degrees up to 55 degrees. We found out that the chocolate and margarine melted first. Even though we increased the temperature to 55 degrees, the candle wax didn't melt. For a further test, we would like to find out what temperature the wax melts at. The next day, we looked at the way the state of matter had changed again. The chocolate had changed back to a solid, although it was a different shape from when we started!
