Investigating melting points

 Leopards continued their work on states of matter. We wanted to find out if solids melt at the same temperature.

To do this, we set up a fair test with 4 different solids; chocolate, margarine, lard and wax. 

We had to measure the temperature really carefully, reading the scale accurately. We increased the temperature by 5 degrees each time, from 20 degrees up to 55 degrees.










We found out that the chocolate and margarine melted first. Even though we increased the temperature to 55 degrees, the candle wax didn't melt.
 

For a further test, we would like to find out what temperature the wax melts at.

The next day, we looked at the way the state of matter had changed again. The chocolate had changed back to a solid, although it was a different shape from when we started!

Tremendous Taddy Stars

  Our Tremendous Taddy Stars really were tremendous this afternoon. They've been working so hard over the past few months, practising their routine at every opportunity- playtimes, lunchtimes and after school and I couldn't be prouder of how well they performed together today. The girls were a fantastic team and gave it everything. Not only did they smash their routine but they were awarded the 'Sprit of the games' award for their support to the other competitors. It's been a fantastic afternoon and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. A huge thank you to Rachel Limer for all the hard work that she's put in and to Joel for the fabulous team outfits- we looked fantastic!  P.s. I've tried to upload the video of the routine to the blog but it doesn't like it because it's too large!
