What wonderful last day of term! Wishing you all a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year! 🎉

DT - simple machines ⚙️

Image
This afternoon, we explored a range of mechanisms in models or products.  Simple machines make physical jobs easier by changing the direction or force. We looked at six simple machines: pulley, lever, wheel and axel, wedge, inclined plane and screw.  To further our understanding, we discussed combining these simple machines to make complex compound machines for example a wheelbarrow which would use a lever with a wheel and axel.  Using their knowledge, the children then went on to design and create their own version of a simple machine using a range of junk modelling materials.

Statues, statuettes and figurines 🗿

This afternoon, we explored 3-dimensional art that uses the human art form. We looked at statues, statuettes and figurines in which the ancient Sumerians, Egyptians and Indus Valley all created informing us about the past.  After having a go at sketching our chosen statues and statuettes, we had a go at creating a 3D model using tin foil, paying careful attention to detail of each figure.  Using tinfoil certainly wasn’t as easy as it looked!
