Let's Learn Moor


 

KS2 children enjoyed a fantastic day with The Let’s Learn Moor Project learning about the importance of the uplands and how they are protected. 

  • Conservation of the moors: Moors for the Future - Bogtastic display
  • Dogs on the moor: Roy Ellershaw 
  • Peak District National Park - Ranger Service
  • Peat protection and rewetting the moors, Wildfire Prevention and control: Peak District Moorland Group - Habitat management 
  • The work of the emergency services on the moors : South Yorkshire Rural Crime Team 
  • Predators and protection of ground nesting birds: Peak District Moorland Group - Wildlife management
  • Game as a food source : Peak District Moorland Group chef cooked game meat for the children to taste as they passed her area.

This week in class, we had a magical and mouthwatering experience that brought our reading of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to life - quite literally!  As we journeyed through C.S. Lewis’s enchanted world of Narnia, we paused to try one of its most iconic (and tempting) treats: Turkish delight (covered in chocolate of course) For those who may not know, Turkish delight plays a rather infamous role in the story. When Edmund first meets the White Witch, she offers him a warm drink and a box of magically delicious Turkish delight - a gesture that begins his betrayal of his siblings. C.S. Hi Leopards, It was great to chat to some of you yesterday and find out what you have been up to.
