Science - Joints 💪🏽

This afternoon, in Science, we carried out some simple, comparative and fair tests to help us understand the purpose of joints.

A joint is where two or more bones meet and connect.

We discussed how humans need the skeleton and muscle for support and how parts of the human body can bend easily because the skeleton has lots of small bones and joints.

After watching a video we did our own investigation to understand how joints work.

Part 1 of our investigation, we took it in turns to reach for our water bottle and take a sip. We observed the movements we made and how the joints in out arm, wrist and hand help us to do this. We then repeated the move tan however this time we slid a cardboard tube over our arms to cover the elbow to see what effect this would have.

Part 2 of our investigation, we threaded a piece of string through a straw and attempted to bring the end of the string together. The children observed what happened and were unable to get the end to meet. However, we then cite the straw in half and re threaded the string. This allowed the ends to meet. The children then experimented cutting the straw multiple times to see what happened. We then compare show easy it was to bring the ends together when there were not cuts as opposed to multiple cuts.
