Magnetic Forces 🧲

Image
In Science, we have been learning all about contact forces. Today we were introduced to a non-contact force called magnetism.  We discussed and shared experiences and knowledge about magnetism including toys and household items we have at home.  We explored different magnets so that we could ‘feel’ the invisible magnetic forces.  And of course, to finish off the lesson, we played a game of magnetic darts 🎯

Making our own volcanos part 2 🌋

Image
This morning, we continued with our volcano project. Although some of our volcanos had not yet fully dried we decided to paint them in the hope that once the paint dries, it will have hardened the dough. They are certainly looking more like volcanos ready to erupt! 🌋

Earthquakes 🌎

Image
In topic this week, we started looking at earthquakes. We recapped key facts about tectonic plates and plate boundaries   We talked through the causes and consequences of an earthquake.  In order to support the children with the physical process that causes an earthquake, we pushed together two pieces of wood covered in sandpaper and tried to slide them in different directions. We found that the blocks became ‘stuck’ and then move when they have stored more energy in the blocks released.

PE - Football ⚽️

This term, Leopard and Giraffes are focussing on developing their understanding of the attacking and defending principles of invasions games such as football. They will learn how to maintain possession and moving the ball towards the goal to score ⚽️ We will focus on the importance of fair play and honesty while self-managing games and learning and abiding by key rules.

Making our own volcanos 🌋

Image
This afternoon, the Leopards started to make their own volcanos.  We are working in groups to make and paint our own volcanos which will eventually erupt 😅🌋 In a bowl, we mixed flour, salt, oil and water to create our dough mixture. Once we had a perfect ball of dough, we flattened it onto a surface and placed a plastic cup in the centre. We then started to create our volcano shape around the cup eventually covering the cup so we could no longer see it.  Once we were happy with the shape, we placed our volcanos to the side where they will dry, ready for the next step, painting.
