Science - Investigating Friction 👟🩴

This term, our Science topic is Forces and Magnets. 

On Friday, the Leopards had a go at measuring and recording forces using newtons. 

The children were put into 5 groups each with a different shoe to investigate: trainer, welly, brogue, sandal and slipper. As a class we then chose 5 different surfaces to test the shoes on: carpet, table, tile, fake grass and the pavement. 

We attached a bulldog clip to the shoes and hooked a force meter through it. We gently pulled the force meter until the shoe started to move and recorded the force needed to get the shoes to move on each surface (frictional force) in newtons.

A taste of Narnia - our Turkish delight experience 🍬

This week in class, we had a magical and mouthwatering experience that brought our reading of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to life - quite literally!  As we journeyed through C.S. Lewis’s enchanted world of Narnia, we paused to try one of its most iconic (and tempting) treats: Turkish delight (covered in chocolate of course) For those who may not know, Turkish delight plays a rather infamous role in the story. When Edmund first meets the White Witch, she offers him a warm drink and a box of magically delicious Turkish delight - a gesture that begins his betrayal of his siblings. C.S. Lewis describes the treat in such an irresistible way that we were all curious: What exactly does Turkish delight taste like? So, we decided to find out for ourselves.
