History - Ancient Sumer 📜

In History, we have been learning about Ancient Civilisations. This week we had to understand some of the notable achievements of the Sumer Civilisation and explain how they influence history. 

As a class we held our own Sumerian Inventors Fair. The children each created their own Sumerian artefact using clay that would have been a new invention during the Sumerian Civilisation. 

These objects consisted of:
A Cuniform writing tablet
A wheel
A sundial 
A plough

Once we had completed our artefacts, the children presented their items to the group explained why they believed their item was most significant.

This week in class, we had a magical and mouthwatering experience that brought our reading of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to life - quite literally!  As we journeyed through C.S. Lewis’s enchanted world of Narnia, we paused to try one of its most iconic (and tempting) treats: Turkish delight (covered in chocolate of course) For those who may not know, Turkish delight plays a rather infamous role in the story. When Edmund first meets the White Witch, she offers him a warm drink and a box of magically delicious Turkish delight - a gesture that begins his betrayal of his siblings. C.S. Marvellous music making, mystery solving and more!

Hi Leopards, It was great to chat to some of you yesterday and find out what you have been up to. As usual, the lovely leopards have lots to tell me!  Marvellous music making  h as earned Estella the Blue Peter Music badge. Here she is, looking very happy with her achievement. Circus Time

 On Monday, Leopards class delved into circus life in preparation for their new book, Leon and the Place Between. We transported our senses with the enticing smell and taste of popcorn and donuts and were enthralled by the incredible stunts we saw on screen. The children were overflowing with incredible vocabulary and we used that to help us come up with phrases to persuade people to come to our circus. We used these persuasive phrases whilst dresses as ringmasters and clowns then applied them in our poster writing. We also had chance to practice our own circus skills (although Mrs Beswick is considerably better than Mrs Chapman at juggling!)
