Exploring mountain ranges ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

This afternoon, year 3 and 4 took on the challenge to prepare for a mountain hike.

We explored the four mountain ranges in the UK that are home to each countryโ€™s highest mountain: Ben Nevis, in the Grampian Mountains, Scotland; Scafell Pike, in the Cumbrian Mountains, England; Yr Wyddfa, also known as Snowdon, Wales and Slieve Donard, in the Mourne Mountains, Northern Ireland

The children got into groups of 4 and each child was given a different role:

  • Weather reporter
  • Navigator
  • Equipment management
  • Climber

Working together, the children had to plan an expedition to their chosen mountain, deciding which to climb and how to prepare

As the children continued to plan their expedition, each group received a challenge card with a scenario (bad weather, steep paths, equipment emergency) and had to work together to decide how they would overcome the problem.
