Geography: Formation of mountains 🏔️

Image
This afternoon, we started the next part of our topic, mountains.  We explored the different ways in which mountains are made. One we understood this, we used play-dough to create our own formation of each mountain type.  Each group was provided with different colors of playdough to create their own model of a mountain. They formed the  shape and different layers to represent different mountain types: Fold mountains  fault-block mountains Volcanic mountains Dome mountains Plateau mountains Once we had completed our play-dough mountains, we described the formation process and what each type of mountain looks like.

Bankura Horse Sculptures 🐴

Image
In art, we have been looking at Bankura Horse sculptures.  Using clay and the techniques we have learnt, we started to make our own terracotta horse.  Once they had dried, we were able to paint and decorate them!

Making inferences about characters and settings 🐀

Image
During our English lesson, the children were exploring the characters and where they live. We discussed the poor setting and what a scene from a typical family living in a house like this might look like. The children worked as a class to construct a still-image representing a traditional family scene we had discussed.  Miss Lingard then called out “there’s a rat!” 🐀  After taking pictures of the children’s wonderful facial expressions and exploring the children’s reactions, we went on to write thought bubbles to help us understand what each of the characters might have been thinking in that moment.

Exploring traditional fairytales and myths 🧚🧌

Image
Just before the Leopards are introduced to their new English book, we spent our morning exploring and discussing all the traditional tales we knew and myths that we had heard of.  We discussed their features, similarities and differences and how every tale has a moral to the story.

States of Matter

Image
We had a great afternoon investigating states of matter. We explored unusual states of matter, including honey, marshmallows, jelly and ooblek. We then looked at changing states of matter, including water evaporating to become a gas then turning back into a liquid as condensation. We also heated our jelly and observed it turn from a solid to a liquid, then back into a solid again as we cooled it in the fridge.
